DaBozz 大包子 – Salt
DaBozz emerges as a force to be reckoned with on her hypnotic EP Salt. In many ways a continuation of the themes and aesthetics of her late 2017 release Silver, her latest entry finds the Nanjing based singer taking her bags of tricks and turning each of the three tracks into a dreamscape full of hip hop swag, trip hop pulp, and art pop ambition. And with the help of some of the scene’s finest female shape shifters, ChaCha and Qi Zitan, as well as producers 3asic and glossyfadE, she pulls it off – a haunting, sultry rhythmically captivating piece of art that lingers long after.
Spice香料 – Möbius Omega无限电阻
After three years of silence, Hangzhou’s Spice returns with a bold new LP, which finds the band taking their past work and experiences and using it to forge a new path. Playing on a wider sonic stage, with layering effects, and harmonies with melodies immediately hook you, the most notable difference here are the vocal performances, which are now front and center, compared to the band’s earlier more instrumental work. It’s a wildly diverse album, full of new age disco ballads, psychedelic electro rock, and irresistible dance tracks full of ‘powerful bass lines, solid drum grooves, lush electronic soundscapes, and that signature dash of strange that open the portal to the world of Spice’. And a strange wondrous new world it is.
Ruining – Can I Disagree? 我可以不同意吗
Dalian musician, Ruining, known for his work with the now-defunct Which Park, returns with the gorgeous, highly intimate, impromptu EP Can I Disagree? – the first release off of Beijing electronic label Prajnasonic’s new atmos series, which looks to shine a light on the electronic and noise scene’s more offbeat creators. Two tracks of ambient modular synth that feels completely lived in and ‘of the moment’, giving the slow burning tracks a very personal and even poignant touch. Simply transporting.
