An intimate evening of food, friends, laughs, and of course music -there was an understated splendor to Live Beijing Music’s Relaunch Party at Caravan earlier this month. Simply put, there aren’t many places where musicians and patrons alike to revel in the lively and warm atmosphere that Caravan provides. And what a whirlwind of music to soak in – from the nervy new wave of Kinkorgasm (this was his fourth gig ever!) to the Southern fried jovial folk duo Coupla Cups (we need more comedy music acts), to the wonder and psychedelic allure of Boiled Hippo, the assured and stimulating surf rock riffs of Boss Cuts, the blues-heavy crackle of Ghetto Blaster, and the unhinged emotional heft of grunge trio TOSS, each and every band laid it all on stage and it was glorious. So hat tip to my hack-genie Badr, the staff (and delicious carcasses) at Caravan, my friends and family, all the fine folks who came out and most importantly, the bands who continue to give music to this wonderful city I call home.
