Hailing from Ontario, BadBadNotGood has become revered for their off-kilter rearrangements of hip-hop classics and devilishly bombastic originals, layering intricate jazz stylings and spry improvisation with krautrock elasticity, hip-hop rancor, and soulful conviction. They rolled through town last week courtesy of rising local hip-hop and soul label Mastermind. Good times were had. These kids definitely know what the hell they’re doing, giving jazz the edge it (sometimes) lacks and whipping the crowd into a fervor of good vibes. Props to BowAsWell, the jazzy city pop trio who are fresh to the Beijing music scene and will be a fine edition to the scene.
